old subject..I'm getting lazy!

>Soapy mix of water and detergent or soap....can someone please advise what the best type of soap or detergent to use and the mix ration. I recall alot of discussion on this subject down to the brandname of the "soap". Or point me to the thread 'cause I can seem to locate it here.

I suspect that this preference is a combination of cheap and imagined qualities. There are only 2 or 3 manufacturers of bulk dish detergents in the country, and they are all pretty much the same thing, except for the essence and color additives, the amount of water that is added at bottling, and the label on the bottle. Note that all of these products are labeled as "Distributed by" in the fine print. I do know that at one time the Costco product was Dawn in a different bottle, because it was shipped out in tank car lots from the P&G plant in Sacremento.
The only time I experimented with soaking wood in the dishwater, I discovered that hot GI soap (Phels-Naptha) was better than the dish detergents at what they were supposed to do. The only problem was that the dry wood looked dead, had a greasy feel, and couldn't be finished.
