What is the practical/Sellable Size for a Platter?

I am making a segmented platter (I will call it a platter though it may more correctly be a shallow bowl) that I designed to be 18" across with a depth of 2.25". It is currently 14.5" across, and I am thinking "Whoa, this is getting big" (my mini-lathe mind at work).
It got me to thinking, what is a good size for this type of bowl/platter. I have 3 solid wood ones drying out of Ambrosia Sycamore that are 14-15". That looks like a good size for a fruit bowl in the middle of a table.
I would appreciate your opinions.
