Oneway did advertise that if you had the Bowlsteady, you could buy the Spindlesteady head for $50. The base on the Bowlsteady is (was) different and they would sell the Spindlesteady head for the Bowlsteady base, but not the other way around. I don't know if they are still doing that, but if you want both you could return the spindle steady and buy the bowlsteady and spindle steady head and save $40..

I have found the bowl steady to be a good product for thin platters, especialy when sanding. My procedure for bowls tends to eliminate the advantage of the bowl steady. But I have used the bowl steady on some problem sanding and the effect was quite good. The bowl steady is designed in such a way that I can swing it to the backside of the lathe to "store" it out of the way. Yet the bowl steady is only a few seconds from being in position to use.

If you get in the habit of turning and sanding well supported wood then the advantage of a bowl steady will be lost.

I am picking up a spindle steady I ordered a little while ago. It is good to know that it will work for the table legs I have planed.

>I have both. The bowl steady come in VERY handy when I turn dried wood. It really does dampen the vibrations when the bowl starts getting thin. I never use it on green bowls, though. No need to. Vibration is rarely an issue there.
