What's the wall thickness, and what size is the base? Did you "decorate" it (the base) any? Sign your name (you should!).

Yes it's maple. The tree came down 9/03 from Hurricane Isabel. Do you remember the bowl with the rolled lip and the small box I had at 5 Barns Picnic, this is from the same tree.

The base is about 2". I had signed it on Sunday with a sharpie, but when I looked at it today it already faded. I'll need to come up with a better system for signing my work.

Thickness, well is a heavy 1/4". I figured for my first attempt it will have to do. I'm not to comfortable with Sorby's Hollow Master, which spun in my hand twice while turning. I'll need to find a different tool.

I part off the most of the bottom and leave a small tenon which I use a dovetail saw to trim off. When I did this I "scratched" the sides of the bottom. It took a couple of days of deliberation to decide how to fix this. This is what I did, I turned a jam chuck to fit the lip, used a million rubber bands to hold it in place, then used 3" stretch warp to hold the rubber bands in place. I wish I took a photo to show you. It worked well.

I used automotive polishing compound, you the the stuff, it's white and used to take out the swirls in a paint job on a car. It's most likely the same as the white diamond compound used in the Beale (sp) system. It's in a paste instead of a bar.
