Toolrest Question

>Just bought a Vicmarc VL175SH and noticed that the tool rest is out of square by about 3mm..As I am not the greatest authourity on lathes ..will this make any difference or do I just file it square?

I built a 12" tool rest for my mini lathe and got it out of square by at least 3/16 maybe more. I was concerned at first but I've been using it this way for 4 years now without any problems.
