Tool bits grinding

>I recently acquired an ornamental attachment that also has a tool bit holder that allows you to use the attachment to "mill" wood on your lathe if you so please (using the cross feed tables). I am thinking of experimenting with this, and have ordered some 3/8" square stock, and 1/2" round stock HSS, for this purpose. The only info I can dig up reffering to shaping these tool cutters is for boring bars. I was thinking of trying to cut some boxes with them, and was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this that they might want to share.

>The OT guys have thier own website from what I can remember. If you can`t find it thru Google then contacting Albert at the Woodturning Center would be a good place to start. The AAW may be able to help also.

If you`re using the cross slide and machining wood much like you would soft metal then maybe one of the machinist tool bit references might be of help.

>Hi Doug,

The unit is made by Teknatool. The cutting bits That are held on the cross feed are stationary, and move into the turning wood. Some router bits, that have the capability to cut from the bottom (no guide or bearing) might yield some interesting results. I'll have to experiment a little. Thanks for the suggestion.

>Aloha Jonathan

I never expected that the aforementioned cutting tool was stationary. Is there a website, part/model # of this unit so that we might have a look at it and get a better idea of how it wotks? You'll get more informed help that way.
