My favorite is the Assoc. of Pole Lathe Turners and Green woodworkers which I put below. Also check out ilovewood.com and go to Alburnm's archives and there is a plan for a pole lathe. Mike Abbotts new book (the bodgers website has a link) has plans for a height adjustable pole lathe that looks really neat. Roy Underhill has sections on both pole lathe and treadle lathes in several of his books, most of which you can get at the library. Drew Langsner also has a plan in his book "The Chairmakers Workshop" . Don Weber, a chairmaker in Paintlick, Kentucky uses a pole lathe and offers seminars on building and using one. I made one and it is great fun although I have not been able to put much time in actually using it. My youngest child started to kindergarten today so maybe I can get in some turning.

You can make a bow lathe (and pole, etc.) out of a Jet Mini lathe pretty easily. hehe Seriously, I've done that for when I either don't have power or something goes wrong at the craft shows I attend. I can keep on turning .... although it makes for a LONG day to pump that bow.
