>I need some input on a new lathe. I have two lathe's, neither of which meets my needs (Ridgid and Craftsman). I am seeking input on purchasing a new one. My primary interest is in turning bowls. I talked with Terry Daniels and am sold that the VB36 is top of the line,however, I do not want to spend the amount of money it will take to purchase one. I have looked at the VEGA 2400 and it seemed good for the money but I know nothing more about it's performance.

Any advise or input is appreciated.

>Sanford, it all depends on how you plan to use the lathe. Is it going to be a hobby or a business? The VB is a serious lathe for professional turners (or hobby types with large checkbooks). My VB paid for itself on one commissioned piece. If you commit to making the lathe pay for itself then all you have to do is make about 5 or 6 vessels that sell for $1000 or so each (doable). Or, you can make one piece that sells for $6000 (doable). Seriously, the lathe can be a toy or a money making machine. It all begins with a commitment.
