Bottle Stopper suggestions..

Robert Case

>Dear Woodcentral Messageboards-without your help, wood working and turning would not be as enjoyable for my family. Thank you!

My son wants to turn some bottle stoppers for

holiday gifts...

1. Are these used for wine bottles and/or olive oil bottles?

2. Are the metal/cork and the metal/rubber stoppers used for the same or different bottles?

Which work better-or for different liquids?

Which bottles/liquids?

3. We were wondering which makes and models work the best...for:

A. Wine bottles:

B. For olive oil bottles:

C. Other liquids/bottles:

Any suggestions of places to purchase specific

bottle stoppers? For example Arizona Silhouette?

Others stores/websites?

Thanks,

Robert and son Matt.

>Robert,

If you don't get your answers here you might want to check out the stopper group over on Yahoo.

>I think you can use any of the stopper setups available from the turning suppliers for wine because they are fairly standardised. Other bottles aren't and you'll need to check the size of the hole. We have used cut down cork stoppers for smaller bottles.

BTW I like the looks of the metal wine stoppers without the corkscrew better than the one with.

>I buy stopper cones from PSI, 100 at a time, best price that I've found. If I want exotic wood I buy that from Craft Supplies, who IMO is one of the best retailers in this business. Craft Supplies URL is:

If I want domestic wood I use scraps and leftovers from cutting bowl blanks.

Someone posted the link to Yahoo stoppers group, lot of good info there.

The stopper cones that I use fit all bottles.

Below is the link to PSI

Oh Yeah

>I much prefer the chrome and rubber gasket cones. I also use the threaded bottle stopper chuck that PSI sells, works much better than the bolt with the head cut off. However, I find that a 21/64" bit works much better than the recommended 23/64".

Hope this helps you and good luck.
