here are the measurements you need:

length of the spindle from one end of the bore to the other = 15.5"

distance from the inboard end of the spindle to the shoulder at the end of the threads where attachments seat = 1"

Mine is set up the same way, using lamp rod, and home-made adaptors ---- I have a series of pictures at the link below if you're looking for ideas....

>I posted a message last year when I set it up, giving a few more of the details. I had a problem with the threaded corian on the faceplace stripping, and I ended up turning a small recess in the front side of the corian faceplate, and added a brass lamp rod nut on the face in that recess.

>Hi John. In the BP Archives is an article which I wrote documenting my methods of constructing rotary adaptors for vacuum systems. I have always tapped the "bell" or chuck from the back side with a 3/8 pipe tap and inserted a brass 3/8 to 1/8 reducer bushing so as to have tapered threads for screwing the lamp rod into. On this latest round of chucks, however, I am using a lamp rod connector in place of the tapered pipe thread bushing. I think the straight threads in the connector might have some advantage. The leak around the straight threads, when compared to the tapered thread used before, should be minute. It will certainly be less than that imposed on other systems which depend on the "seal" of the chuck to the spindle threads.

Except, I'm going to be making it so that it replaces the handwheel instead of the inside hollow rod. Far less hassle when you need to use the spindle taper for something. I've made a several now of each style for other lathes (see the link) but not the Jet 1642.
