Dyed Maple Hollowform

>I haven't posted a photo for quite some time. This a dyed maple vessel with a holly collar. About 5 inches in diameter. Dyed with Chestnut spirit dye and has several coats of Daly's tung oil finish.

This is simply elegant!

I'd like to say it was pure pleasure to meet you and your lovely wife (she's a real sweetheart!)in Provo. (did I score points?!)

Seriously, I haven't seen a single piece of your work that wasn't inspiring.

>Hi Wally, another great piece, I will add it to the other saved photos you have posted so I can use them for reference when I try hollow forms. I still want to be able to get bowls better before I try to advance to another level. The holly produces a nice contrast. I am surprised how white it is.

I may try the dye you use on some of our maple to see if I can get a similar effect in a bowl.

Thanks for posting, George

Most excellent my friend!

Dave Smith, Longview, WA

>Hi Wally,

Your work is always an inspiration to see. The holly rim is a prefect topper for this piece.

Speaking of holly, were you able to get something out of the blue/green holly I gave you?

Dave Smith

I need more lathe time in Longview, WA.

Love the form and color. How about posting some of that mesquite root that I traded with you? I have been dying to see what you did with it!

A Question...

Russ

>Did you bleach the wood first, or go straight to the wood with the dye??

Re: A Question...

Wally Dickerman at Green Valley, Az.

>Russ, I've never tried bleach with dye. I picked up some of Daly's 2 part bleach while in Seattle this summer, and might try it. I do sometimes thin the dye with alcohol. I also mix colors to achieve the colors that I want.
