Uses for McNaughton & other savers?

The straight blade makes a great parting tool.

>I was shaping the outside of a large bowl when I found a nail in the bottom half of the blank. The top half would make a deep platter if I could remove the damaged part containing the metal. I used the straight blade of the center saver to part off the offending chunk. Quick, safe, easy way to make a parting cut over 5" deep. I had no other options that I could think of short of going back to the chain saw.

One of the slickest things I have seen anyone do with the Oneway system was done by Dave Lancaster at one of the symposiums.

He mounted a half log on the lathe and proceeded to just use the largest coring tool to make the largest outside shape on the bowl. No roughing it to a round shape, he just did it with the coring tool. It was very impressive to see.

I haven't tried it yet, but I will be trying it in the near future.

Dave is one of the best production turners I have ever seen, so he is always thinking of new thinks to try. If you ever get a chance to see him turn, do yourself a favor and do it. Plus, he is a heck of a nice guy!!

After I had the section mounted between centers and started to turn slow I chickened out. I think this method is beyond my skill level. I will stick to my rough circle off the chainsaw and then the gouge between centers or a pin chuck.
