Anyone ever turned a speaker?

>After looking at my little mac speakers, it occured to me that turning a housing for speakers might be a neat little idea....see the pic for the idea.
Anyone ever done this? Heard of it?
I've built speakers with standard housings, but never considered turning them.
Seems easy...a hole for the driver, a hole for air exhaust, and a hole for wires. Flatten one side.
Thoughts? Anyone seen this done before, so I can see some examples?

Years ago I bought Radio Shack's book on speaker design, and learned a few things, although there was nothing about sperical enclosures.
One, the inside surface should not be smooth. Rough up your enclosure inside with grooves, maybe. The standard practice was to line the inside with foam.
Two, the more isolated the sound waves from the BACK of the speaker cone are from the FRONT, the better sounding bass will result. A speaker in a long tube is one example, another is a series of baffles inside the enclosure.
Try putting a little 2" speaker in a large sphere, say 10-12" with several baffles inside, and a small vent hole at the back. Of course, you'd have to make the sphere from two halves.
