Lathe Chuck for Bowls

David Lykins - Marietta GA - guitardude

>OK, I have to admit, I'm really enjoying doing some turning on my lathe while the glue dries on my guitar bodies........

Anyway, I'm looking into possibly purchasing a chuck that I can use for bowl turning. I've read and seen some good things about the NOVA chucks, but do I really need to drop $80 to $100 on a chuck of that type. On the other hand, I would like to purchase the chuck once, and not regret the purchase, and then go out and buy the one I should have gotten the first time.

Thanks for your help.

I have a spare chuck I am not using. It is a One-Way basic chuck. The adapter is on my other chuck. I live in Marietta. Email me.

>Hey David,

It is great to see your name! Whether you buy a Oneway, Vicmark, Technatool, etc. make sure you buy a keyed chuck. The ones that require two tommy bars to tighten are a pain and in the long run you'll probably be sorry you did not get a keyed one. I have a Stronghold I could let you borrow for the fall, until I finish school in Jan. I'll not be turning much. (1"x8tpi thread)

Best Regards!

>David,

Living in Atlanta, we have a great resource at Highland Hardware. They had a great assortment of Oneway chucks along with the various jaws for different applications. In addition, they have the adaptors for almost any lathe. Talk to Mike or Phil who are both knowleagable turners. They also have an el cheapo that I bought just to have a spare one that runs around $60...from Taiwan. I have had excellent success with it.

Make sure you come to our GAW meeting this Thursday night at 7 at Highland. Don Duden, an excellent turner will be the demonstator.

Key chuck only !

You get what you pay for. I use Vic chucks and have never had a failure.

Good turning and be safe
