Big news for me from me

Bill Grumbine, Kutztown PA

>Greetings all

Since I have been teaching turning, students of mine have been encouraging me to make a video, write a book, and do other things associated with spreading my ideas on how things get done at the lathe. While it has all been very flattering I have never had the wherewithal to do any of the above. No money for a video, no time to write ( a book, anyway), etc. Some of that changed not too long ago, when a student who offered up the same opinion also offered to stake me on the project.

So, towards the end of this week I will be filming my first full length movie on how I turn bowls, from the log in the field to the finished piece on the table. A lot of work has gone into this already, and there is still a lot more to do, but the thing is scheduled, and soon I will be a movie star, at least in my own head!

I will be out of contact with the internet from Tuesday morning on, and who knows how busy things will get between now and then, but I wanted to tell a few hundred of my closest turner friends. ;-)

If I don't post between now and then, I will see you all when I get back.

Bill

>To remain near to the subject of woodturning (don't want a rocket for odd posts)... lathe, bowl, catch, chuck & grind.

Good luck Bill or is it 'Break a leg' that those Thespian (spelling?) types say to each other.

I want my first edition signed in sweat cos I think you are going to do a lot of it.

Joking aside ... Go for it, I eagerly await the delivery of my copy.

Dave Peebles Lyons, Ohio!

>Hi Bill,

I am sure you have had to overcome many things to get everything to this point.

I am also sure it will be a great teaching tool. Please be sure to let your wonderful personality come through on the DVD. Not that anyone could stop that. :)

I can't wait to see the finished product.

Best wishes,

Dave

>Good news Bill! Good luck on your endeavor and keep us posted. For me, videos is the only way I'll 'meet' professional turners. I'd certainly like to meet you and learn from you but being around 12000 miles away puts a damper on it. Please let me know when it's finished as I'd like to get one.

All the best,

Ron

Don`t do it Bill!

Bob Hackett

>The video is bound to be a hit and then all sorts of people will be calling you to demo.Next thing you know you`ll be flying all over the world on all expense paid trips to teach your techniques. You`ll be forced to spend weeks away from the shop in exotic places with people supplying whatever you need.Manufacturers and suppliers will be sending you the latest equipment free, just to get your opinion.Who needs that kind of aggravation?

Congrats on taking the next step.Break a leg,Hollywood awaits.

BTW - can I get an autographed copy? I want to be able to say "I knew him when he was just a regular guy, before he became famous"

Just hurry up so we can all buy the video.

WooHoo! I want mine on DVD!

David Propst

>Hey Bill,

It is about time. Being one of the few to have seen you on a video I think yours will be a worthwhile and very popular addition.

PLEASE offer it on DVD. The DVD format is so much nicer for instructional videos, plus you can run to the computer or DVD player and look up a specific section so much easier.

Warn the ladies, you'll be seeing us in the spring!

My very best to you all!

David

>That's great Bill. I can't wait to see the finished product. A copy is sure to find its way to my home. And I guess I'm like many of the others who would like an autographed copy. Maybe Ellis can make a deal with you for your closest WC buds.

Congratulations!!!

Best of luck with this, and who knows what will come next,

>Thanks everyone, for the kind words and encouragement! The Poolewood is loaded in the truck, strapped down, and ready to go. The shop looks really strange, with nothing but a big pile of shavings where the lathe used to be. I also managed to bonk my head several times on my lighting fixture while walking around in the space where the lathe sits.

Just a few last minute things to do and I am on my way tomorrow!
