Mahagony, for whatever reason, is the toughest wood for me to turn and get a good finish. I've got a 2" bowl blank sitting on the shelf that I've been meaning to try and your nicely finished piece is just the inspiration I need to give it a go.
When I first started turning, I did a lot of mahogany because I had scraps of that. The tear out and end grain issues pretty much soured me on it. My skills have (I hope) improved since then, so I will give it another try.
