If I win the bid on a stereo microscope on ebay you will see some smaller goblets with much better details. I'll have to make smaller tools to do that however.

This is kind of like making your first thin vessel. You get hooked on it and have to make one but once you've done it you can go back to regular turning knowing that if you ever need to make a really thin one you can. It's kind of a confidence thing.

BTW, I've made smaller ones out of cocobolo (ebony has been too brittle for me to get much detail from) ... and use a 1" skew .... and never any magnification. But I'm young and I was told by an older woodturner to "do it while you still can".

I'll be attempting 1mm tall x .4mm diameter cup x .2mm stem in a few days to replace my stolen bigger ones. It should be able to fit into the eye of a needle that way. I'd love to be able to take a decent picture of it, if I can get it done, but I don't have the equipment.

Do you lose more than you keep by simply loosing them while parting off? I've made dozens in the 2mm tall category but have only managed to catch and keep a few before they fell into the dust.

Do you hollow the cups in yours? What do you use to do it with? I just ground the sharp tip of a sewing needle with a micro bevel and use that.

I know what you mean about your eyes, I have the same problem. I have reading glasses everywhere I work or read (about 10 total). They are like pencils, I'm always losing them.
