I used a Vega motor, which is no longer available. You can get a motor and controller from www.surpluscenter.com. A good controller is thierItem# 11-2269, for $56.95. They have several suitable motors, about 2 HP. Most of these are surplus treadmill motors, for about $20-30. You need to call them.

Two more items:

You will probably need a new belt, which is available for www.aarubcorubber.com. The belt is a Poly-V, J section, 3 rib. You need to measure the size belt needed and tell them.

I also bought a replacement motor pulley from Jet, since I had to bore it out slightly to fit my 5/8" motor shaft. $15 plus shipping.

The total cost might be around $140. That is about half the cost of a new Jet Mini VS lathe.
