>About 5" in diameter. Tried a new finish on it - the new Zissner French Polish. Comes ready mixed in a can. Applied on the lathe at high speed as with a friction polish, but worked much better than others I've tried. Most of them don't work on things much larger than a pen or a finial, for me anyway. Very easy to build and obtain a gloss finish. Final buffed on wheels.

Ebony collar. Maple burl is really hard to find around here, unlike cherry burl. This little piece set me back $3.

I'm still getting the hang of the collar treatment, its not quite as delicate as I would have liked, but fortunately, it is not yet glued in.

>Mark, I let Bill know, but him only as I was very bummed to not be able to attend. I had a wedding party date sprung on me after I had already planned to attend Grumbine's, and couldn't pass on the wedding. As one was hours north, and the other hours south, I couldn't do them both in the same weekend.

It turned out to be a long story - didn't actually get to the wedding after all, but I still have those spalted/ambrosia maple pieces I was holding for you. They'll keep.

That is a really pretty vessel. I've only done a few of the collars and yes they are sort of tricky in my opinion. Just a slight adjustment and they either work or they don't. I think this one is nice, but I can see where it might be just a smidgen more delicate as you say. Wonderful form though!
