>I'm looking for ideas, to supplement my own, on constructing a mobile type barrier, to keep the chips, and ribbons, from going all over the shop.
Anybody got a pic of one you've made for this purpose that you will share? I would also like to see those that are not mobile also.

>i use those shower curtains with magnets on the bottom. they are easily attached to the ceiling via the magnets around the lathe, and just as easy to take down when not needed.

One improvement I need to make on mine is to narrow up the opening and make it longer to increase the suction.
I don't think a shop vac would work very well but I have a home-made D.C. with 2 blowers hooked into one chip separator.It's big enough to run a 6" main by right now I'm running a 4 inch main.

>W.C., after years of spraying chips all over my shop and leaning strongly toward shower curtains but not likeing the idea that they are going to hang somewhere when pushed to the side....I finally had a brief mental moment and decided that the roll-up porch blinds would do the job. Found them at Lowes and I have purchased and installed 3 @ <$9 each. They are flat vinyl slats, light brown in color (couple of other color choices available and also higher priced types as well). They come complete with hanger hooks and only take a short time to install. Roll them up to the ceiling when not needed and drop them down when turning. The ones I got measure 72x72 inches which is about perfect for my application. I have one at the back of the lathe (about 3-4 feet away) and one at the tailstock end about 3 feet away. Kind of makes you feel like you are turning in a box but they sure do the job. The slats are just far enough apart that you can see thru them.
One blind is mounted parallel to shop lights and one is mounted across and just below and other pair of shop lights. I used several links of light chain and S hooks to drop the blind below the lights.
Try it, you will like it.

>I hung up thick clear plastic sheeting (way cheaper than shower curtains) on all four sides. Also hung up 1/2" EMT piping, about $1 for 10 feet, and bought cheapie shower curtain hangers. Reinforced the top edge with some cloth tape and cut holes for the curtain rod hangers. The plastic sheeting works great. Allows light in, easy to move aside and contains both chips and dust great. Might do the same for the ceiling as water flies up there with fresh cut blanks.
