Since no manufacturer makes a perfect tool, first time, every time, if/when something goes wrong with yours, how much will it cost you (in $$$, frustration, stress, time, etc.) to get the problem fixed, or alternately how much was the "savings?" worth to you to live and work with the tool's deficiency?

My lathe is only a JET 1236, and I like it just fine. I have not turned on either of the larger JET models, but from what I have heard from people who do use them, they are both competent lathes. I wish I could afford to trade up, but right now, even at a rock bottom price, that is not in the budget.

I too have a 1236, and for the most part I'm happy with it. At the 5 Barns Picnic my wife took a liking to a large bowl by Mark Mandell and said "When are you going to make me one that size" I told her I need to get a larger lathe to do that.

All I said so far to her about price is that it's cheaper than a Harley.

If you're looking to spin big wood (remember that storage/display space of such items gets short, fast), at $1725 you might do well to consider the PM 3520A. I think I saw it on Amazon on special for about $300 more.

Of course, if you'd like to try a Stubby, you'll just have to stop by.
