>I am in the process of buying a new grinder. Is there a noticeable differnce between a 6 or 8 in wheel ? Should I but 3/4 or 1 in wheels. It will be used for all my sharpening.

>I worked off of a 6" x 3/4 for several years; thought it was great. then i worked off a 7"x1" and discovered that i didn't go through the friable wheels quite as fast, and it was easier to sharpen with jigs with the wider stone.

however, the biggest difference i noticed was when i started using a baldor grinder -- smooth, big reduction in vibration.
