I hope you don't mind my asking (in case you've already covered this in other posts), but I be curious as to what you think about the 1640 now that you have it. I seem to remember that there was some delays in getting it to you? I forever casting about thinking about upgrades to my Jet Mini and I figure if I'm going to dream, dream big of a Oneway :)

I'm particularly interested in if you've tried any outboard turning, yet, your impressions of the fit/finish and quality of the tool, ease of use of the remote arm controls and anything else you'd care to mention about it.

>Mike, I LOVE my 1640. The fit and finish is top of the line. The tailstock is rock solid. What a joy to be able to bring it back on the mark time after time. Everything is a dream to use. It turns out the "delay" was not the fault of Oneway. I worked through a store in Richmond and I think the salesman fudged on the arrival date figuring I might balk at the true delivery schedule. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

I have not turned on the outboard side yet and might not for awhile. I am happy turning <16" diameter items right now. As long as I was ordering the lathe, I wanted to get it with everything I might want in the future.

Outboard = Bowl Lathe

>Barbara - I have a Oneway 2436 which replaced a 24" bowl lathe. When I got my bowl lathe I absolutely loved being able to work face on to the work. I find that I am doing most of my bowl work outboard on the 2436, regardless of size. Much easier on the back, not having to lean over the ways and you can use tools at different angles of attack. Should be the same on the 1640.
