Try it by cutting rings in various sizes out of green paper and laying them on the form.

Nice looking platter! I think a very thin line of inlay might have been nice, but it certainly doesn't look like it's missing anything as it is. I like Marks suggestion of cutting thin strips of paper and seeing how it would look. Or even you could have used a small green/blue marker before sanding to see how it would look. Just an idea.
