Finishing Cedar

>I just obtained a piece of rough sawn cedar. approx 8" X 1" X 10' long. It was cut from a log off a tree about a month ago. Don't know how long the log sat before cutting. I heard cedar is difficult to finish. I want to turn some pens and maybe make a box or two. Any suggestions as to how I should handle finishing pens and ultimately the boxes.

I just played around with that while doing some wine stoppers out of cedar. I used lacquer, thin Ca and Hut wax. They soak up the lacquer so it takes many coats. The CA worked will but I hate the fumes it's expensive. The Hut works well and was my favorite of the 3. It's probably not as toughest finish but looks good and sure is quick.

I finish the cedar the same as the other woods.
CA as sanding sealer following sanding with 240.Sand to 2000, burnish with brown paper. CA finish. EEE, then shellawax.
Using CA helps form a harder surface.
