5 Barns Gathering

Brad Vietje

>Best wishes to all who are off to the 5 Barns Picnic and turning event. I had hoped to drive down from Vermont to see some of our WC regulars face-to-face, but I have a big event of my own coming up, and can't get away for the weekend. To make matters worse, I now have a funeral to attend, as well. I hope I can make it down next summer.

I have a big hunk of Staghorn Sumac for Ruth Niles, which I had planned to bring (as a gift, or possibly trade for a new T-shirt). It will only get drier if I wait 'till next year !

Maybe some of the greater PA folks who attend the 5 Barns Picnic could venture a little northeast in October, and join me at the Totally Turning Symposium in Albany, October 30-31. Keith Tompkins, Russ Fairfield and I are all on the program, (as well as some internationally known turners like Micheal Hosaluk, Giles Gilson and Bonnie Klein), and I'm sure I speak for all of us in saying I hope you can attend the Albany symposium.

Ruth: I'll bring the wood if you came ...

>Brad, I'll be there! Now that I'm chickenless, I can travel and. besides, how can I pass up the chance to see you and Russ in the same place?

: )

I won't be attending Bill's picnic this year either : (

See you in Albany and I'll bring a shirt for the trade (check my website and let me know size and style; torne-lignum.com).

Chickenless??

Dave Peebles Lyons, Ohio!

>Hello Ruth,

Say it ain't so!!

There are certain things that I count on in the world.

One is... the world is basically round.

The second is...my chuck is the best one made.

And the third is... Ruth always has chickens!!

Will I now have to re-think all the things I base my life on. ? :)

>Sorry Dave, but I have no more chickens. I just couldn't go anywhere; do you know how hard it is to find chickensitters? I must admit I did cry when the people came and took them. It was a nice family and they promised to love and care for them. I'm suffering from "empty nest syndrone".......again! : )

>OK, Folks -- how to turn a chicken, then ...?

Anyone got any ideas on a turned chicken ?

Keith, Russ and I may have to be emissaries of good will and bring Ruth some chickens for her "empty nest"... what say, guys, can we meet the challange ? How 'bout an Emma Lake-style collaboration ? Head, legs, body, a few tail feathers ? After all, the biggest archetectural feature in Albany, NY is called the EGG !

This could be fun !
