" I have had a number of private emails from other sales agents and all have told me they have the same problems"
I have received similar emails from those who have either sell or have directly received product from Vicmark. More than once those emails referred to shipping damage and a failure to be supported in repair of lathes damaged in shipment. One email referred specifically to an "arrogant attitude." While it might have been more effective if those persons would have provided their experience more openly to the group, I do understand their position of not wanting to jeapordize a business relationship or warranty support. I recognized a lot of frustration. TD, of course, has cut through that for himself.
I really sense that no one has any vendetta against Vicmark. I think the very high quality of their products has been affirmed consistently by myself and virtually everyone who has direct knowledge of their offerings. Indeed, they have an unusually consistent track record of quality in production and design. But we have been reminded (though some probably didn't need it) that there is more to a satisfying purchase than the quality of design and manufacture of a product. Matters of manufacturer and dealer attitudes towards each other, problem solving styles, concern for customers, etc. directly impact the consumer, oftentimes irrespective of written warranties. I think we all know that situation is probably much better in the turning world than most other areas, but obviously it exists here as well. Individuals will draw their own judgments as to whether a particular individual manufacturer is poor or exemplary in these respects, but I believe the discussion which has occured has been quite positive overall in illustrating there importance.
