>I have one of the older ones as well. Jet sells a "Retro Fit" kit for about $15, that frankly is a waste of money. It consistes of a self adhesive template and a drill bit for you to drill your own holes.
With only a bit of skill, you can do it yourself without the kit.

I bought the extension for it when I purchased it. Got the fool notion of doing some spindles longer than 3' on it so I bought 8' of some flat steel bar from the welding shop. I think it was 1/2" X 1 1/4". Polished the steel bar stock with a belt sander, drilled a few holes in it, built brackets from wood, lined the bar stock up with the bed (or ways) of the lathe and screwed it down. It worked.
If you try this and plan to use the extension much, do a better job of planning and building than I did.
