How Crazy is this?

>Sounds more than a bit underpowered. Even band mills with much thinner kerfs are usually more that 15hp. What were you thinking of using as a cutter?

I know it's probably not a good idea, but what else can I do with a lawn mower motor?

somewhere I may have plans for a band mill made using tires for the wheels. You inflate the tires to get the tension. I'm leaving for vacation immediately after work but if you send me something to remind me I'll look it up when I get back and check all my e-mail.

It used front spindles from a VW, and the wheels/tires too.
VW's are collector's items now, so you'd probably have to settle for a '76 chevy nova or something of that ilk ;-)
Those compact spare tires would be just the thing, they're not good for anything else!
