>I have a Ray Key modified 3/8 spindle gouge that has come loose during the rotation force of drilling a hole in a bowl. How can I retighten the handle on the tool? I know the brass ferrule is mainly for keeping the handle from splitting.
Knock it out by putting the steel in a vise and tapping on the ferrule. Then score the steel with course sandpaper and put it back in with epoxy. It won't come loose but you knock it out using the same technique if you ever need to change the handle.
Don't put too much epoxy in. It will create hydraulic pressure from the seal with the air and push the handle back out. I push the steel in and then clamp is until the epoxy dries to keep this from happening.
