Scroll chucks vs. jaws...

>Has anyone ever worked up an analysis of all the scroll chucks on the market, to show which manufacturer's jaws are compatible with other manufacturer's chucks? I think this would be extremely useful information, when making chuck-buying decisions.
In my case I have two Novas and a lot of jaw sets, and I'd like a third chuck, but not necessarily a Nova...so, what other chucks are compatible with Nova jaws?

All face jaws that fit the Original Nova, SuperNova, Talon and Oneway Scroll Chuck are interchangeable.
Nothing else is interchangeable.
The Oneway jaw sets will have one with a pin that is used to limit travel. It will have to be removed if the jaw is used on a Nova chuck.

It is a wonderful addition to my options and I find myself using it more and more. You just have to be careful to keep your knuckles and tools downwind of the jaws. Phil

KMS currently has the SuperNova body for $125US with approiate insert for yout spindle thread.

Teknatool now has a large Nova Titan. You should consider it. Lyn says that it is the best big chuck out there now, and it will take all of your current Nova jaws.

>Actually, I think I said it was my preferred big chuck of all that I have used. I don't own the big Axminster, but have a lot of respect for it and for the wide range of jaw sets available for it. Still, there are things about the Titan that the Axminster doesn't have, including three screw jaw affixing that provides a very stable support for very large jaws, more of which can be anticipated in the future. Also, the Titan key arrangement I find to be the best--regardless of brand--off all the chucks I am aware of, including the Axminster. I find the combination of hex key and ball head simply make for the best combination of easy insertion, positive placement and capbaility of mild angle ability of any key yet offered. Of course the Vicmarks could match this by simply adding a ball end to their existing keys.

The nice thing is that we now have several very well performaning large chucks.
My preference would remain the same, even if I had access to the Axminster, as the Titan will allow me to use all the jaws from both Oneway and Teknatool that I already have or might get in the future (well actually I can't use one jaw from the Compac chuck), as well as performing very well indeed.

On the new Titan, did they correct the annoying - counter-intuitive - left (counter clockwise) to tighten action?

>Not to seem flippant, but why on earth would they do that? There are many thousands of SuperNova users that are quite familiar with its direction of rotation, and changing would become quite confusing to them, who of course, are likely to be the preodminant purchasers of these chucks.
I grant you, it seems counter-intuitive for compression mode, but it doesn't for expansion mode. I know some folks have found it confusing, but I actually have never had any problem with it. I think if you use any chuck frequently, its operation becomes fairly automatic, at least it does for me, and I go back and forth between a fair number of chucks.
Of course if it is a major annoyance for one, there are lots of alternatives that won't have this characteristic.
