Maple hollow form (PIC)

>Yes I am supposed to be on vacation but had to change the start date a few days. So I finished this birthday gift for my best friend. Not absolutely my best work, I can see a flat spot just above the foot, but she'll never notice. Curly maple on one side, spalted burl on the other. lacquered and buffed, about 5" in diameter with an ebony collar. comments and critique welcomed.

Nice form and grain pattern. I think the base of the collar could have been a little wider and lower, but it looks good.

I made a similar hollow form with a real small foot, and fortunately I left it just a little thicker at the base to leave some weight there. Turns out it would tip over too easily (like when someone walked by and the floor flexed a bit -- old New England homes do that). I was able to take it back and put it between centers, and took a bit off the bottom to make the foot a bit wider, which made it much more stable.
I love a small foot on a purely decorative piece, but I hope this has a very stable place to sit !
Very, very nice job, Mike -- in fact, I'm inspired to change my plans for the day and turn a small-footed hollow form myself !
