>This is a gift for an old friend who just graduated seminary had is in a new pastorate.

I have over four months in these pieces (off and on). I learned a lot and got great enjoyment from this project. I am looking forward to doing #2 and it will not take nearly that long.

Chalice:

Wood: Hard Rock Maple with gold leaf foil

Finish: Multiple coats of Deft, finished with Formby's Hi-Gloss

Height: 6-3/4�

Diameter: 3-3/4�

Plate:

Wood: Maple (Silver Leaf?) with gold leaf foil

Finish: Multiple coats of Deft, finished with Formby's Hi-Gloss

Height: 1/2�

Diameter: 6-3/4�

Presentation Box:

Wood: Aspen with cheap brass hardware (lesson learned), lined with red velvet

Height: 5-5/8�

Width: 7-1/4�

Depth: 7-1/4�

On the next chalice, I think you would enjoy seeing the stem a bit more delicate toward the bowl and stem. The middle of this one (where the gold leaf is) is great. I just can't help but think you would be more pleased with the shape if the stem were smaller.

Just my initial thought.

>What a nice gift. I think the stem is just right for the overall shape. If it was a goblet I would agree it should be thinner. It is too bad the pictures are so small, the detail is lost.

At the band, the stem is 7/16". The idea was a continuous flow of the curve. It may be a little retro.

I think it looks great, but then I think that I have seen these before. :-) The presentation box is a great idea as well. It really completes the whole set.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that more delicate stemwork makes for a more elegant work. I am trying to balance on the edge of elegance and useability.

Just for the record, the walls of the bowl are 1/16" thick. :)
