African Sumac has a wonderful color and grain.
Takes a great finish but does move alot.
Good turning and be safe

>Dave, staghorn sumac is light grayish tan in color and it is a relatively soft, ring-porous wood with a very pronounced figure. It tends to ring shank (check along the annual rings)and is a little chippy to turn or shape, but it's a very attractive wood.
Because this species seldom gets very big, it doesn't produce lumber in dimensions that would be appropriate for larger projects...but for small decorative items it's a nice wood to work with.

>Here is a pen I turned out of sumac. It seldom gets big enough around here for anything much larger than this. It is very fibrous and I had to ream out the holes for the barrels just to get them in. It finishes nice but the wood is quite soft.
