Easy way to lower the speed of a Jet 1236

>I busted the belt on my Jet 1236. The orginal belt measured 1/2" x 24". I replaced the belt with one that measured 3/8" x 23". What happens is the smaller belt opens the pulley on the motor, making a smaller diameter which reduces the speed.
