>This was actually the first thing I ever hollowed out, but it just finally turned dry enough to finish. Used a faceplate and didn't realize the screws poked so far through, thus the wide opening. Thin walls, couple of interesting voids and inclusions. Walnut collar. Interior painted black. Lacquered and buffed. About 8" in diameter. Bottom and top have same profile. Tiny foot about 1/8" tall same diameter as collar.

Not all pieces will have a balanced appearance with a tiny opening. Check out Jacques Vessery's pieces; many of them have large openings, yet are just lovely to look at.
