Russ I need Help with dried out burls

Here is what I tried to post. I recently traded for two really dry Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir burls. I've roughed turned them and in order to avoid them splittling should I soak them in a brew of oil for a few weeks like the one you posted on WOW?
