Bandsaw Woes

>Mentioned in a previous post that I fell off the deep end and bought a lathe and some tools then, won some logs at the club meeting. Over the weekend I cut some blanks on the bandsaw to rough out the green wood before drying. What a mess on the bandsaw. The blade was caked with pitch and whatever. Had to disassemble the whole thing and clean. Is there another cleaner easier way to rough out blanks from logs?

Also sharpened three of the five Hamlet tools. What a difference over the factory finish. Watched Raffan and Lacer videos until SWMBO pulled the remote from my hands then, read Raffan's books.

I am doomed!

I have found that the fewer the TPI, the easier it is to cut green wood, generally. If you order from Suffolk (Timberwolf blades), tell them what you're doing and they'll send you the correct type of blade.

Also, regularly spray some Pam (yes, from the kitchen) on your blade and it'll help it cut cleaner, without as much pitch adhering to the blade.

What type of wood are you cutting that is making all the pitch? I've never had a problem with pitch unless I was cutting pine (which I stopped doing).

BTW - Pam does work - I sometimes use it when I'm resawing.
