Drive Belt for Jet Mini

Mike Rubes

>Hi all,

I know this was just covered a few weeks ago, but I cannot find it in the archive, nor did I really take note of that thread then. Of course, I now need some of the information in that thread!

While the drive belt on my Jet mini has not actually broken, there's about a 2 inch segment where the ribs have stripped off. The directions in the manual are pretty clear about how to replace it, so I don't think that will be a problem, but where can I order the belt? Also, I remember some one mentioning that you might as well replace the bearings while in there, but I would't have a clue where to get those either. Finally, should I regrease things or something when I put this all back together? What type grease and where can I get it? :)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

>Hi Mike,

I am in the same situation with my Delta mini, the belt is not quite edad yet but fuzz keeps coming out of it. I imagine the belts most be quite similar if not exactly the same. Around here there are places that sell industrial belts of every description, you bring the old one and they will find what you need. It i sthe same case with the bearings, you need to know the specs, best bet is to bring what is there, and they are easily available, at a fraction of what Delta charges. Do a search for "ball bearings" and see what comes up. I prefer to buy in a place were I can walk in and talk to a human.

Good luck

Jorge

>Mike,

Do a search on my name and look for the Posting on May 10th.

Here is the text of what I posted on the bearings

"I bought the belt from Jet for about $15, but someone Fred L in NC bought belts from the source below.

The bearings are standard BB-6004VV and BB-6005VV, (1 each). If you get them from Jet or most bearing houses, they are about $15 each, but places like Bearingsdirect.com have them for half that. They are also standard bearings used in ATVs and I got mine from an ATV supply house, but have lost all information on where.

HOWEVER, It took 4 years of hard use before I had to replace mine, so if you don't have to, why spend the money.

I would order a new belt, and when the other breaks - replace it then. "

There is more information about belts in the tread. Email me when you get ready to change the bearings and I will give you the 10 cent tour. It will take you all of 20 minutes to do it all. Nothing to lube by the way.

I will say - since it does not take long to do any of it, unless the bearings are making noise, I would leave them alone. It took 4 years of hard work for mine to wear out.

>Mike:

For a belt, have you checked with Woodworkers Supply on Capital Blvd and or Woodcraft on Glenwood Ave., they both sell Jet.

For bearings, Applied Technologies just outside the beltline on Rt 64, east side of town, (other side of town from you towards Rocky Mount). You'll have to turn right on "Corporate" (thing that is name, call them first). They were Dixie Bearings few years back but they have just about anything in stock that you may want. They will match up if you bring in old one. Their prices are very fair when considering the brand etc they sell. I prefer Fafnir as have always gotten good results with them.

I would replace with double sealed, regardless of what is in there now which is probably shielded bearings.
