burning toes

John Lucas

>This is for Mike. I was reworking my boring bar this morning and a hot piece of metal from my arc welder fell through my ventilated running shoes. Burned the #@$% out of my toe. I'm sure my neighors thought I was break danceing.

Then when I pulled the bar out of my vice it slipped in my hand. You guessed it. Slipped down and I caught it at the hot end. I had gloves on but still burnt my hand.

Then I was cutting a piece of tubing for the bar and as the hacksaw went through I rammed my knuckle into the vise.

You won't be able to take that boring bar into church for at least a month. I'm going for a bike ride. I'm going to stay off the main roads. The way my luck is going today I'd get run over.

>Yup! Bad Karma today. I visited with a fellow wood turner, Mike, who did an injury to his thumb with a knock-out bar. He was't even turning, just putter'n around. The kind of hurt that takes days to heal. I stayed out of the sho...er..studio today...recovering from surgery.

I always bike. It relieves the stress. Except for every now and then when a red neck throws a can or bottle at you. Then the finger comes up. I can't help it. The darn thing has a mind of it's own.

>And now we've been surrounded by tornados and lightning all day and probably most of tonight- have water in places that have never leaked before, esp. in my turning shop-got some of the koa and rosewood that I bought this week wet.!

>I'm sorry I'm laughing so hard. That sucks!

I've done a similar thing with a torch and a frozen nut on an exhaust hanger. Went in my pants pocket!

Thanks for sharing. OUCH! Wear your helmet out there!

I'm starting to think we should all dress like Ninja warriors while working in our shops. We need all the various body armour + all the breathing gear of a deep sea diver. Come to think of it the steel boots and things the divers wear would probably protect you quite well from a crazed chainsaw.
