Back to turning again

>Good Morning folks!

A couple, in fact I would even bet I could say NONE, of you might remember me, but I used to be a quiet but regular on rec.crafts.woodturning. I have had online conversations with Lyn and a few others here, but none of which were very memorable for them so I don't expect them to remember me.

Anyway, after much too long a hiatus from the online turning community, I have decided to return. I also thought that I ought to post a pic to show that I do in fact turn. So here is my first attempt at a square bowl done several months ago and given as a gift to some family in Glasgow, Scotland. It is Cocobolo and 7" on a side.

Forgive the picture, but it was taken in a hurry on a dresser top in bad lighting minutes before leaving for Glasgow. And no, I don't live in the U.K. I am a life long resident of Northern Virginia, so those that want to get in touch, feel free.

Anyway, I look forward to chatting with everyone again!

That is the nicest thing I have heard in months! It is always nice to be remembered.

I was in Denver last month and while I do love it out there, there certainly isnt quite the selection of wood that I have here on the east coast. On the other hand, things made out of wood uncommon to the west seem to sell at quite a premium at some of the art galleries I visited.

That is a great looking turning. I love the flow of it.

As far as wood selection in Denver, I will agree with you there. People that have access to the right woods to get a premium for them, but they aren't as easy to obatain around here. I live an hour north of Denver so I know.. Glad you'll be posting on here.

It is a sad thing to see what has happened to rec. crafts. woodturning. I remember when I first discovered it. There were some great woodturners that hung out there. I remember when I would get home from work and that was the first place I would check on the internet.

It seems that now it is just a few people who repeat what they have heard somewhere on the web and pass it off as gospel.

I do miss the old days.... But thank God for what Ellis has provided for us strange people who love to turn wood.

Sometimes I go to the Google archives to see just how great it use to be. There were some pretty good woodturners that use to post there.

We need more people to find out about this place.

Maybe it's time to do a mass mailing to some of the gang.
