Beall Buffing Dilemma

Jonathan Spool

>I recently purchased a Beall buffing set. When I use it I get covered in fluff! I tried making sure the wheel was sufficiently loaded, although I'm not sure what that looks like, and turned the rpm way up to "harden" it, but the fluff still flies! What gives?

>Thats normal for awhile. MAKE SURE you only use very little wax or you'll have nothing but trouble with the final finish. A little goes a LONG WAY ! Good luck, Sean

>Hi Jonathan,

When I first set up my Beall system, the directions said to use a bit of sand paper to knock off the first bit of fluff. I did that and it was like a feather pillow exploded in my shop :) Since then, I occasionally get a small piece or two of flannel, but mostly no fluff at all.

Good luck,

Mike

>I put my dust collector hose right next to the back of the wheel. I must not use as much of the wax as others because I've buffed a lot of stuff and still get the fluff. Not anywhere near as bad as when they were new but it still floats around a little.

>Jonathan,

With the wheels turning, try using a handsaw against the wheel, teeth down. Don't run the speed too high. By the way, this also helps to clean the wheels if you need it. Like as been said a couple of times, be sure and use adequate ventilation (I also use the dust collector, like John, and that helps quite a bit!)
