I have and use the McNaughton combination set, but no experience with the "mini". I waited until I got my new lathe because my 1236 would not handle a coring tool. What I found out from Bill (G) and others is that the ability to core is more a question of technique that lathe power.

I use mine as often as I can on bowls. Before you buy one (of whatever brand), I suggest you find someone who has one and try it. If you're going to the 5 Barns in July, maybe we can talk Bill into doing some cores and you can try it there.
