roughing out bowls

Larry Tibbet

>Hey guys,

After roughing out an apple wood bowl this morning I was going to super glue some knots before coating them. Apple contains a lot of water so I used compressed air to dry the knots etc. As I was shooting air into the inside I noticed water coming out the other side. Since then I've been blowing water ( a lot ) out of the bowl. I hav'nt tried other wood yet. Maybe this will speed up the drying. Any one ever try this with success ?

Thanks : Larry

>I should explain: I was forcing the air through the poors of the wood

>Most of my work is turned/sanded to completion green. Before sanding, I blow out as much water as I can so the sandpaper won't clog up. Helps quite a bit.

>Larry, I do this all the time with thin natural edge bowls. It removes a lot of moisture.

>John Jordan does this with Cherry to keep the sap wood from turning color. he said it gets darker if you let it dry naturally and you lose the contrast between dark wood and light wood.

>I do that same thing with turning and sanding green and then boil the bowl. Again, the air hose helps drive out some of the water and shortens the drying time before I can hand sand and finish.
