>Does anyone have that new, small, three jawed self-centering chuck that PSI is selling? I'd like to use it kind of like a collet chuck for shortening a mandrel. I'd look at a Beall chuck but they don't make them for my 3/4"x16 spindle. It looks like that chuck would tighten down to 1/4" and work just fine.
Anyone?

With the #1 jaws it will go down to about a 3/8 inch and I don't have to deal with the dangerous jaws of the smaller one. Also with three jaws it was difficult to get anything centered. The 4 jaw seems to be fine. I got spoiled with my Oneway talon and strongholds that I use on my 3520 but the PSI is lighter and better for use on my Jet mini. Here is the link:

>I have the PSI mini-chuck but with a 1x8 thread and it will close down to about 1/32 of an inch. I found it to be of good quality and I really like it for turning finials and smaller spindles, tops etc. Makes it easy to put on quickly and turn a perch for a small birdhouse, which I make a lot of.

this chuck is probably ok for small things, which you'll be truing up anyway (like the perches mentioned above), but if you're wanting to use it for holding a pen mandrel, it's probably not near accurate enough. Per John's comments above, you probably wouldn't be happy with it for pens.
