Another Photo Question

>Hi all, I played around with my camera settings and now get decent pictures with true color. I,m still testing with a white background. Would light grey as a background work better or is it just in the eye of the beholder. Thanks, Sean

I think white looks OK but I've heard many Juror's say they don't like white. The vast majority of photos sent in for Jury slides are shot on a medium gray. We use Thunder Gray seamless backgrounds at work.
The advantage of using a middle gray background is that it doesn't throw your camera meter off as much. Your camera meter doesn't now Holly from Ebony and will try to change the exposure depending on how light or dark the subject is. The gray background tends to neutralize this difference a little.

>Mostly it is determined by usage-gray works for most all colors of turnings, but can become boring. I usually try to standardize white for gallery or jury submissions so that the backgrounds match, but for web or other uses black works well with light woods, but not dark woods. Gray doesn't present a significant exposure correction problem as does black or white.
