>I also use it for natural edged bowls. If the surface is very irregular you can first start a groove with a bowl gouge so that when the McNaughton blade enters the blank it's not bouncing around from bark to air. There's less chance for catches this way too.

>Just remember to start the cut VERY slowly, since you are cutting air half the time at first. Advance the tool to fast at the beginning and you'll get a catch that may rip the blank off the chuck or bent the knife (DAMHIK)!
