It is wood like this burl that can easily pay for a coring system. How much would the two bowls you could core out of this be worth? Or how much would a hunk of wood with that character and size be worth to you?

Still the best way to go is to visit a friend and offer the friend the larger core. You get the big bowl and the small bowl and your friend gets a nice bowl. Sounds like you are both winners. You also get a chance to see how a coring system works.

I have three of these in the shop and more to come from other trees on the property that I marked for removal. One is about 4 �� in diameter at the base of a maple. I just roughed the exterior of a nice 17� yellow birch bowl plus have two more blanks like that one ready, I am hesitant to turn the cores into shavings. Maybe I will look into a bowl saver. I think if I do a search I will find a lot of info. I believe Bill Grumbine just had something recently. I also watched Steve Russell use one at a demo in February.

If you want a no-brainer system with little of no learning cureve the Oneway system is it.

The learning curve is higher on the hand held systems but the price is a lot less.

If you have a club near then you could likely find member who have different systems. Perhaps you could try out some of the different systems to help you evaluate a system of your own.
