What adhesive for seal on vacuum chuck

Doug

>I completed my first vacuum chuck and for the seal I used closed cell foam that came with self adhesive back. I held a bowl against it and turned on the pump. Gauge showed 20 Hg and it pulled the foam away from the MDF face. I have some foam with no adhesive on it and wonder what I might use to secure it to the MDF?

Had no problem with holding the bowl (6" diam.). Is 20Hg too much vac.?

Mark Mandell - Gone Round In Jersey

>With a chuck of 6" diameter and 20"hg, you've got 280lbs of pressure holding the bowl. If the bowl's thick, enough, you should be fine, but you might still back off a bit (15") to prevent marring the bowl's inner surface.

A bit of contact cement (solvent type) should get things well stuck.

>For my MDF/PVC drum chucks, I use 3M 77 spray adhesive. Works perfectly.
