Nova Cast Iron Legs Q...

>I just emailed Teknatool regarding this but I'd like to poll the group for their experiences while waiting for them to respond.

I currently have a stock DVR mounted on a homemade bench/stand. I'd like to get the cast iron legs for it because it would 1) make it easier to turn from the other side of the lathe (my current bench has another lathe on the other side), and 2) be "somewhat" more portable for traveling (i.e. put a couple axles w/tires under the legs to roll it on the trailer).

HOWEVER, I'd like to add TWO more extensions for some long spindle jobs that come up every now and then. Any issues with a bed this long only supported on the ends?

I have one extra bed extension on mine and it's fine. 42" between centers. I'd think about center support going 2. Just my opinion.

>I just bought the cast iron legs for my 3000. My 3K only have the original bed (no extensions), and I have had some large out of round blanks on it. It is solid and steady, even without adding my ballast box. Makes clean up underneath a lot easier than my old bench.

The legs are very solid and well made. The assembly directions are "not perfect", but manageable. With the legs, there is a sheet metal "connector" that is built for 2 sections. With 4 sections, I'd imagine you'd have to either forego it, or make one yourself our of some plate steel. If you did, I'd bet you'll be fine.
